The Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments

The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)--Framework for integrating building teams.  Greenformat—an online resource for collecting green-build information

Green Building Initiative--Firm dealing with design and construction consulting

Forest Stewardship Council

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—Government Agency has information on a number of green building initiatives and strategies

GreenSpec, BuildingGreen, Inc.—details regarding green products, data, and manufacturer information.

GreenBuilder—a website which provides articles and suppliers for green building elements.  Their Sourcebook is a very helpful guide and provides information for various green elements and products.  Originally developed for the city of Austin, TX, it has been adapted to be national in its scope, and can therefore provide information useful to green projects around the country.

United States Department of Energy—Government website with various forms of energy modeling software and other green building resources.  The site also features case studies from government projects.

DOE2—website featuring various forms of energy modeling software and information of their providers.

Green Globes—An online auditing tool for integrating principles of green architecture at every stage of project delivery for retrofits and the design of new buildings

AIA COTE ( Committee on the Environment)—The Committee on the Environment (COTE) works to advance, disseminate, and advocate design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both the design quality and environmental performance of the built environment.

NAIMA—North American Insulation Manufactures Association—Trade association representing manufactures of fiberglass rock, slag wool insulations in NA

The Hardwood Council—Information resource for architects, designers and builders for hardwood

The Vinyl Institute—Trade assoc. for vinyl plastic industry

Chemical Fabrics and Film Association (CFFA)—Vinyl-roofing division, possibly other divisions.  Manufacturer of green vinyl roofs

Salvaged Materials

Reuse Development Organization: national, non-profit organization that provides assistance in locating and using recycled or salvaged materials

Building Materials Reuse Association—non-profit organization for companies involved in the exchange and reuse of building materials

Low VOC Products

Green Seal—products marked with the "Green Seal"’ are designed to meet the Green Seal standards to comply with lower VOC levels.  Green Seal is an independent, non-profit organization which promotes the manufacturing and sale of products with minimal negative impact on the environment.

Bio Shield Paint—manufacturer of organic/low-VOC paints, finishes, adhesives.

Pittsburgh Paints—low-VOC paints, sealants and glass

*Many traditional manufacturers of paint (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Glidden, etc.) now carry low-VOC paints.  Therefore it would be useful to consult with existing suppliers regarding the availability of these types of products.
