University at Buffalo | Murchie Family Fieldhouse
The Murchie Family Fieldhouse was designed and built to provide the latest in custom practice spaces and equipment for student athletes.
Opened in March 2019, the facility features a full-size indoor football field, 6,000 feet of rubber track, long/triple jump and pole vault pits and motorized suspended softball/baseball hitting tunnels. The 92,000-SF structure also includes an entrance lobby, manager’s office, restrooms, storage and M/E/P spaces.
Construction required some unique techniques as well as specialty contractors. After the vertical columns for the structure were installed, the roof was assembled on the ground and then lifted into place by two cranes working simultaneously. LeChase engaged various manufacturers to custom make and install the turf, sprint track, netting, sports equipment and other amenities.
In addition to serving student athletes, the fieldhouse provides the university with a space to hold recreational programs and other events for the entire campus community.
