For the first time, two LeChase interns have received scholarships from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of New York State. This year, the scholarship committee selected 28 students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in construction or construction-related engineering to receive a total of $73,000 in scholarships. Among those recipients are Jack Updyke and Jeremiah Cortes, both of whom are interning at LeChase this summer.
Jack Updyke – who is returning for his third summer with LeChase – is a field operations intern in the Central NY office. Jack attends Afred State College and served as the secretary of the school’s AGC club, which led him to apply for this year’s scholarship.
“It feels great to be rewarded with this scholarship. To be recognized by AGC means a lot,” noted Jack. “My time at LeChase played a huge part in receiving this scholarship. My previous supervisors were both used as references, and I have had amazing experiences being guided by them. I’m very grateful that I have had the opportunity to learn from and represent LeChase through my past three years of internships.”
Jeremiah Cortes – who is returning for his second summer with LeChase – is a field operations intern in Rochester and attends the Rochester Institute of Technology. Jeremiah heard about the scholarship from one of his professors and applied for it the past two years.
“Being one of the recipients of this scholarship means a lot to me. [It means] that there are people out there who support the path I am pursuing,” Jeremiah noted. “I am grateful to LeChase for helping me get to where I am today. Through my internships, I have been able to gain great experience that has helped give me a better understanding of the industry and the job I hope and plan to pursue.”
Congratulations to both Jack and Jeremiah on this exciting achievement!
