OTO Development, LLC | AC Hotel by Marriot Chapel Hill Downtown
LeChase was general contractor for this project, which was the first Marriott-branded hotel on the east coast to use modular construction. To expedite the project and to minimize noise and disruption to the neighborhood surrounding the construction site, all guest rooms on the second, third and fourth floors were built off-site and delivered as completed modules. The modules were then stacked into place by crane, and workers completed remaining electrical, plumbing and finishing work on-site.
The European-inspired hotel – which is within comfortable walking distance to the University of North Carolina – opened in December 2017. Its architecture complements the surrounding contemporary developments, while respecting the height, scale, character and streetscape of the historic university town.
In addition to 123 guestrooms, the facility also includes 650 SF of flexible meeting space, two-levels of below grade parking for 111 vehicles, and energy-efficient features that include a green roof to manage stormwater runoff. Exterior amenities include a cozy-corner fireplace “den” and a courtyard/patio accessed from the lobby and fitness areas.
