Engineering and Computer Science Initiative

Explore the Union College Engineering and Computer Science Initiative Building project with LeChase. This microsite will serve as a dedicated space for project updates, learning opportunities and initiative insights, and a glimpse into the future enhancements that will promote the integration of engineering and computer science and the liberal arts by bringing together teachers, scholars, learners, and practitioners as collaborators inside and outside the classroom.

REVITALIZING A LEGACY:

Project Scope

The new Engineering and Computer Science Initiative (ECSI) building will be constructed to LEED Silver standards at a minimum. The building will help create the requisite office, research, teaching and student spaces to accommodate the growing programming and staffing needs within engineering and computer science. Successful completion of the project will support the return of Union College's civil and environmental engineering programs. Design for the ECSI building began in the Summer 2024. Construction will begin in the Summer 2025. Key enabling efforts include demolition of Steinmetz Hall and below grade foundation slabs from the science and engineering building previously demolished. Utilities for the new construction will be fed from the cental plant steam and chilled water system and the building will be connected to the electrical microgrid.

Enhancement to include:

  • Connection to Butterfield Hall
  • Research and Teaching Spaces
  • Student Gathering Spaces
