A TASTE OF TRADITION:

The Story of Buffalo's Broadway Market

Founded in 1888 amidst a vibrant community of Eastern European immigrants, Buffalo’s Broadway Market quickly became an essential gathering place on the city's bustling east side. Initially established on land donated by the city, the Market evolved into more than just a location for commerce—it became the heartbeat of the neighborhood, blending social connections with business and serving as a vibrant crossroads for exchanging goods, news, and cultural traditions. Throughout its rich history, the Broadway Market expanded significantly, offering rare and exotic delicacies alongside farm-fresh local produce, solidifying its reputation as Buffalo's second-largest commercial district.

Though rebuilt several times—including the current 90,000-square-foot structure dating from 1956—the Broadway Market continues to thrive, maintaining its unique blend of tradition and community spirit. Today, with diverse shops, delis, restaurants, and specialty food vendors, it remains an enduring icon of Buffalo’s cultural heritage and community resilience.

REVITALIZING A BUFFALO ICON:
