On November 14, LeChase hosted a “mock bid day” to give Rochester-area students a look at how construction firms determine estimates and submit bids for a project. The event is conducted through the ACE Mentor Program, which is aimed at high school students who are interested in architecture, construction and engineering.
About a dozen mentors and 36 students participated in the event, which involved bidding on a job to construct a large-scale dog house. After receiving drawings and details of the project, the students broke into eight groups. They then talked with volunteers playing the role of subcontractors and suppliers to gather additional information and ultimately submit their team’s bid price for the work.
It was the fourth year LeChase has hosted “mock bid day” at its Indigo Creek office. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a great learning experience.
