DURHAM, N.C. August 31, 2015—LeChase Construction Services, LLC is pleased to announce that the Carmichael Building, a former tobacco warehouse located in downtown Durham, has been selected as a 2015 Best Project for Renovation/Restoration by Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southeast.
Now in its 15th year, ENR Southeast’s Best Projects Awards program recognizes construction and design excellence in the Southeast region. This year’s winning projects will be recognized at ENR Southeast’s Annual Best Projects Awards Luncheon on November 10, 2015, in Orlando. Projects deemed best in category will automatically compete in the Best of the Best Projects 2015, a national competition by ENR.
ENR Southeast received 88 entries this year, with projects located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Of those 88, the Best Projects judges chose 39 entries for recognition. The 2015 award-winning projects will be highlighted in ENR Southeast’s Nov. 9 print edition.
“We are excited to be the recipient of this prestigious award but more importantly to have successfully delivered a building that has become a part of an innovative and entrepreneurial hub for downtown Durham,” said Jack Goodrich, vice president, Southeast region of LeChase. “Working with owners, HCP Inc./Longfellow Real Estate and architects, Gaudreau, Inc., we were able to transform this historical landmark into a vibrant, integrated
research facility and that is something our team is extremely proud of.”
LeChase provided construction management services for the $27.9 million, 115,000-squarefoot historic Carmichael Building, originally built in 1926. The facility was renovated into Class “A” office and laboratory space and is currently occupied by Duke University School of Medicine in support of Duke University Medical Center’s expanding research departments. This is the third award the project has received in addition to the 2014 Best Building Project by Downtown Durham Inc. and a Real Estate Award in the Top Redevelopment category by Triangle Business Journal.
