The Duke University Chiller Plant 3 project received its certificate of occupancy on July 28. LeChase was construction manager for the plant, which will help provide air conditioning for various university and medical buildings.
The 36,233-SF building initially provides capacity to produce 7,600 tons of chilled water, with provisions to double that amount in the future. The plant also houses office space for Duke’s High Voltage Division.
Construction started in February 2019 on the plant, which celebrated its first start-up on April 20.
