DURHAM, N.C., November 10, 2014 – LeChase Construction Services, LLC is pleased to announce that Duke University’s Baldwin Auditorium has been selected as Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southeast’s 2014 Best Project for Renovation/Restoration.
Now in its 14th year, ENR Southeast’s annual project excellence program is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them in all 50 states plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. This year’s winning projects will be recognized at ENR Southeast’s annual Best Projects Awards Luncheon on November 11, 2014, in Orlando. Projects deemed best in category will automatically compete in the Best of the Best Projects 2014, a national juried competition appearing nationally in ENR.
ENR Southeast received nearly 100 entries, with the submittals for two categories— Health Care and Higher Education/Research—each numbering 15 or more. Entries were divided for review by two separate independent judging panels consisting of local, prominent design and construction industry professionals. After each entry was scored, the respective panels then discussed the ratings via conference call to determine final winners. Overall, 44 projects were recognized representing 19 specialized categories.
“We are thrilled to have won this prestigious award for it is fitting recognition for the men and women who have given their talents and expertise in restoring this incredible venue back to Duke,” said Mike Konieczka, LeChase regional operations manager, SE region. “Having worked on the Duke campus for more than 40 years, the renovation and restoration of Baldwin Auditorium into an acoustically superior, world-class musical venue remains one of our organization’s proudest achievements.”
LeChase oversaw the two-year, $12.5 million preservation and acoustical transformation of the 86-year-old Georgian-style auditorium, which included a balcony extension, MEP relocation, elevator addition and wall, floor and ceiling refinishing.
This is the fourth award LeChase has won on behalf of Duke University’s Baldwin Auditorium in the Raleigh-Durham area.
