LeChase employees in Durham again participated in two community efforts to equip students and teachers for the new school year.
Crayons to Calculators (C2C)
On average, teachers report that they spend about $1,000 of their own money to supply their classrooms each year. The Crayons to Calculators organization helps to serve the educational and creative needs of students in the Durham Public School system – and ease the teachers’ financial burden – by providing donated school supplies. Thanks to the donations made by employees, the LeChase Durham office was able to fill three crates to assist in the C2C effort. Shown at right with the collected donations are, left-to-right: Darbee Jackson, Denise Thompson and Mike MacGilvray of the Durham office.
Durham Rescue Mission Back to School Pep Rally
Thousands of local Durham families and Durham Rescue Mission workers and residents attended this annual event, which included a buffet lunch, raffle prizes, bounce houses and games, as well as clothing and backpack giveaways. The LeChase volunteers (shown below) worked as food runners and buffet line servers, and enjoyed putting smiles on the faces of the kids and families throughout the day. In addition, our very own Santos Aguilar assisted mission staff by translating in Spanish during the raffle giveaways. Everyone felt honored to be part of the effort.
Durham’s oldest and largest long-term shelter, the Durham Rescue Mission provides safe shelter, addiction recovery programs and much more in the Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh area. The mission serves 400 men, women and children every day, 365 days a year, and LeChase is currently building new housing that will further expand the mission’s capacity.
