It was a project about community and family. Valeriy Borkun was working toward the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, so naturally his mother Galina Borkun and her Armonk office colleagues stepped up to help.
One of the requirements for achieving Eagle Scout is to plan, develop and execute a service project that affords the scout an opportunity to demonstrate leadership. Valeriy, a member of Troop 353 Eastchester, chose a project to replace 1,500 square feet of ceiling tile at the Eastchester Community Action Partnership – an organization that helps low-income and at-risk residents in Tuckahoe, Eastchester and Bronxville achieve greater self-sufficiency.
Galina’s co-workers Perry Geyer and Chris Fredericks mentored Valeriy as he planned the details of his project and finalized a safety plan. They also provided him with tips and suggestions on how to effectively lead a project. Kamco Supply generously donated the ceiling tiles and Smart Clean, through Chris’ husband Gary, donated cleaning products.
The Armonk office supported the project with the safety gear, tools and equipment – but the support didn’t stop there. On project day, Valeriy was joined not only by his mother, but also by Perry, Chris, Gary, Kevin Chmielnik and Phil Vogiatzoglou. His scout leaders and fellow troop members also participated, resulting in an impressive 178 hours of volunteer service.
Congratulations to Valeriy on completing this important step on his path to Eagle Scout, and thanks to everyone from the LeChase family who helped him execute a well-planned project for his community.
