Rochester, NY, June 25, 2014 – LeChase Construction Services, LLC is pleased to announce that Finger Lakes Community College’s (FLCC) student services center and auditorium has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). The campus addition is the first LEED-certified public building in Ontario County. LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
“We are proud to have helped FLCC achieve its goal of LEED certification and pioneer green building in Ontario County,” says Raymond F. LeChase II, vice president, LeChase Construction Services. “The foresight and hard work of everyone involved has resulted in a facility that not only meets exceptionally high standards of sustainable design, but will also benefit the community and the environment for years to come.”
The student center spans 82,326 square feet and includes auditorium seating for 400-plus. Key sustainable design features include roof solar panels; daylighting; occupancy sensors; energy-efficient windows and HVAC systems; and low-flow plumbing fixtures. Environmentally friendly exterior features include water-efficient landscaping and LED parking lot lighting, which reduces energy use by nearly 75 percent.
“FLCC’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach farther than ever before, and FLCC serves as a prime example of just how much we can accomplish.”
LEED-certified building reduces energy and water use—saving money for families, businesses and taxpayers; reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and contributing to a healthier environment for residents, workers and the larger community.
