Recently, the team working at Horseheads High School installed structural glulam beams at the site. The unique beam design required close coordination with the glulam supplier/installer, the prime steel contractor and design team. With the beams being a critical path activity, precise scheduling of their manufacturing and delivery was also essential to meet the aggressive summer schedule.
Glulam beams are made from layers of wood that are bonded together using strong, moisture-resistant adhesives. The photos at right show beams in place for the school’s new library addition (top photo) and the ceiling of the renovated cafeteria (bottom photo).
The glulam installation was part of phases two and three of the capital improvement project at the high school that began in November 2019. In all, the high school project consists of 12 different phases with completion scheduled for late 2022. LeChase is proud to be the general contractor on both the ongoing high school and middle school projects that are part of the overall Horseheads 2030 – Building Our Future Now program.
