LeChase Construction Services is renovating a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) room at Nuvance Health Imaging and Radiology in Fishkill, N.Y., for the installation of new MRI equipment.
Crews are performing the 1,000-square-foot renovation while operations continue at the imaging center at 200 Westage Business Center Drive. LeChase is taking steps to prevent disruption to the adjacent MRI units as well as other nearby advanced and sensitive medical equipment. As one example, workers will use non-ferrous tools on the project because the powerful magnet used in the MRI unit remains partially active even as the machinery is being replaced.
“Renovation near an MRI unit requires extreme care and sensitivity for the unit as well as to medical activities that continue nearby,” said LeChase Vice President David Campbell. “We are employing our vast experience and knowledge of healthcare operations to complete this project with no interruption to the medical professionals and the patients receiving care.”
LeChase is a leader in working within occupied medical spaces. Its team deploys tactics that include temporary walls that dampen sound and negative air pressure to ensure that dust remains in the enclosed construction area.
At the Nuvance Health center in Fishkill, LeChase began work in September to open the room for GE HealthCare to remove the previous MRI unit and install the new equipment. LeChase will then reconstruct the room around the unit, finishing with new ceiling tiles and a fresh coat of paint.
The project is expected to be completed in November 2024.
