LeChase’s work on the Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (CIS) building at Cornell University is being used as an example of innovation and sustainable construction for students in SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry’s construction management program.
With Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) installation complete at the CIS project, Project Executive Ken Osmun took SUNY ESF professor Paul Crovella on a tour of the project, sharing information on the many benefits of using CLT. CLT is a prefabricated, solid engineered wood panel that is both lightweight and strong, with superior acoustic, fire, seismic and thermal performance. This type of timber is fast and easy to install and generates minimal waste. When applicable, using CLT is a great alternative to traditional materials like concrete, masonry or steel on projects.
Professor Crovella is sharing the information on CLT – and its use for hybrid mass timber construction on the CIS building – with his students as a real-life example of innovative and sustainable construction practices.
