ROCHESTER, N.Y., August 25, 2014 – LeChase Construction Services, LLC is pleased to announce that the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has recognized Rochester Institute of Technology’s Golisano Institute for Sustainability Project/Team with a National Award of Merit for an Educational Facility.
In announcing the annual award, the DBIA stated that the high-performance design features of the resulting 84,000-square foot complex make it “a living laboratory of sustainability.”
LeChase Construction partnered with SWBR Architects and FXFOWLE Architects under a design-build contract to create the $36 million, state-of-the-art facility, which serves as a showcase for green construction and design, and an epicenter for sustainability, research, technology transfer, education and outreach.
Now in its 19th year, the DBIA Design-Build Project/Team Awards program revamped its scoring criteria for 2014, placing a greater emphasis on the team, as well as the project. Submissions were judged by a distinguished panel of industry experts, with winners not only needing to achieve best value while meeting design and construction quality, budget and schedule goals, but also demonstrate advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery—including design-build best practices.
“This year’s award competition was the most rigorous to date,” said Lisa Washington, executive director and CEO of DBIA. “As a result, the 2014 winners showcase unique applications of design-build best practices to raise the industry’s bar even higher and are shining examples of what can be accomplished through Design-Build Done Right.”
Twenty-five projects in nine categories were awarded National Awards of Merit this year. One project in each of the nine categories will be named as a National Award of Excellence winner in an awards ceremony during DBIA’s Design-Build Conference and Expo on October 7 in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, three National Awards of Excellence will be given for Design, Process and Teaming, and one project will be honored as Project of the Year.
The 2014 DBIA National Award of Merit for an Educational Facility is the third award for this Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED©) Platinum project.
