City of Rochester | Public Market Wintershed Revitalization
The Public Market has served Rochester for more than a century, and this revitalization improved the experience for vendors as well as shoppers. Initial work included construction of a covered outdoor shed to temporarily house vendors from an indoor area known as the wintershed. Crews then demolished the existing wintershed and constructed a new 13,000-SF indoor shed of brick and glass. With wintershed occupants back indoors, the covered outdoor shed now provides space for 48 additional vendors at the market. Other aspects of the project included utility, pavement and sidewalk improvements and construction of new restrooms. In addition, four kiosks at the site were demolished and replaced by four shipping containers that now serve as permanent food kiosks.
