Duke University | Karsh Alumni and Visitors Center
As the new ‘front door’ to the Duke University campus, the Karsh Alumni and Visitors Center creates a strong first impression for visitors and an inviting welcome home to students and alumni. The Center actually encompasses three buildings as well as outdoor space on a five-acre site. A striking new 20,200-SF events building provides space to accommodate gatherings of up to 600 people, as well as a pavilion wing for smaller meetings. Also included are a new 16,900-SF, two-story office building and the 1930s-era Forlines House – historically renovated to serve as home to Duke’s Alumni Affairs group. From the events building’s impressive glulam arches to the covered outdoor walkway, the Center provides a modern twist on Duke’s gothic architecture. Selective use of Duke stone further ties the Center into the iconic look of the campus.
