Durham Public Schools | Murray-Massenburg Elementary School

Comprised of several wings centered around an open courtyard, the 134,000-SF, three-story Murray-Massenburg Elementary School provides a unique learning environment for its 800 students. It incorporates abundant views of adjacent wooded areas, maximizes natural light throughout its interiors, and provides a number of indoor and outdoor spaces to extend learning beyond the traditional classrooms.

The building structure is comprised of structural steel and load-bearing masonry walls at the basement level. The exterior skin includes curtainwall, ACM panels, brick, exterior linear white Oak PVC ceilings, and formed metal wall panels. Inside, the school features a number of distinctive features and finishes – including high-end decorative lighting, suspended interior wood ceilings and custom wall graphics.

Designed and built to promote the health and well-being of occupants, the Murray-Massenburg is on track to be the first WELL-certified elementary school in North Carolina.
