Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation | Explore & More Children’s Museum
This project highlights the construction of a four-story, 38,000-SF children’s museum in downtown Buffalo at the former Buffalo Auditorium site. The façade was constructed using masonry, curtain walls and metal insulated panels. A key feature of the building is a rooftop terrace on the fourth floor with views of the canals and city. Two sides of the building border a man-made canal that functions as an outdoor skating rink in the winter and a shallow waterway for paddle boats in the summer.
Careful attention was used in selecting building components and preparing a materials pallet that was shared by the supportive structures and throughout the historic Erie Canal District. This project is LEED® Certified, for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. LeChase also self-performed the concrete for this project.
