UR Medicine | Central Laboratory
Completed in 2019, the Bailey Road facility now serves as the central laboratory for UR Medicine.
LeChase acted as Construction Manager-at-Risk for the project and self-performed all of the concrete work. The scope included renovation of 53,000 SF within URMC’s existing Bailey Road building and construction of a 47,000-SF addition. The renovations covered core lab and biosafety level 2 and 3 areas as well as spaces used for clinical trials, microbiology and toxicology. The addition provides room for clinical laboratories and offices as well as a compounding pharmacy. A new mechanical penthouse was also added, and significant upgrades were made to the existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and process utility infrastructure.
As with many health care project sites, the Bailey Road facility was active during construction. Crews scheduled work and took steps throughout the project to minimize disruption so clinical staff could continue their important work.
Given the growing number of patient tests performed by UR Medicine labs, the Bailey Road addition was designed and built to support another story/level should URMC decide to further expand the lab in the future.
