The Strong National Museum of Play expansion and parking structure project has received a 2023 Excellence in Partnering Award from the Associated General Contractors of New York State. Each year, the award honors project teams that have achieved the high ideals of partnering – both formal and informal – on construction projects across the state.
LeChase partnered with The Strong, owner’s representative HB Cornerstone, CJS Architects, M/E Engineering, and LaBella Associates on the museum project, which celebrated its grand opening in June. The four-level, 100,000-SF museum expansion now features the World Video Game Hall of Fame, a two-story gallery and open lobby, Hasbro Game Park and Riedman Plaza. The scope also included renovations to the museum’s café, gift shop, restrooms and offices. The 330,000-SF, five-level, cast-in-place parking structure – which opened in 2020 as phase one of the project – offers space for approximately 1,000 vehicles and features a unique façade comprised of 352 6 x 6-inch steel tubes in 15 different colors.
LeChase Vice President Jim Scheirer, Project Executive Kailly Mintel and Project Manager Courtney Lafferty were joined by Matthew Emens from HB Cornerstone to accept the award at a December 6 ceremony.
