The Blue Light – a seven-story student housing project near Duke University in Durham, North Carolina – has received its certificate of occupancy. LeChase served as construction manager on the Wilmorite development, which will provide a prime residential location for upper classmen and graduate students.
“We appreciate the great partnership we’ve had working with Wilmorite and the architect, MHAworks, on this project,” noted LeChase Vice President Seth London. “Thanks to them and to the entire project team, The Blue Light is ready to serve students for the fall semester.”
The Blue Light name pays homage to the Blue Light Restaurant that originally occupied the space from 1949 to 1974. The new Blue Light has 211 beds across a mixture of 80 two- and three-bedroom apartments, along with retail and restaurant space on the first floor.
Catering to its targeted student population, it offers bike storage, resident study rooms and a mail/package room. Other amenities include group fitness and exercise rooms, individual unit balconies, an outdoor patio terrace, covered rooftop lounge and rooftop warm and cold-water spas.
Construction started on The Blue Light in March 2019.
